Who sells who

This morning, I have read something smart.

Publishing is not about selling newspapers or magazines to consumers, it is about selling consumers to advertisers.

XHTML2 vs. HTML5

Mike Malone has recently posted a great article which could be useful to most web developers asking what the hell is HTML5 syntax like or how different will XHTML2 be.. or even better, when the hell they’re gonna be out and official?

As for me, I’m still thinking and analyzing. One thing is for sure. HTML4, which is still used, is over 10 years old. And W3C is really getting annoying with delay as I hope my children will not use it. I’m starting a wast research to find major advantages / disadvantages of both standards, but till then, read more about it at XHTML 2 vs. HTML 5 article.

SEO - Is it a lie?

Eoghan McCabe from Dublin, Ireland, has an interesting and lately, wide discussed theme regarding on SEO (Search engine optimization). In his post, he talks about lies and tricks SEO “specialists” use to make money.

His two articles, SEO is bullshit and SEO is still bullshit, explains why SEO doesn’t work in most cases and why don’t need SEO. Frankly, I agree in most cases. Why? Well, I had seen a whole bunch of specialized companies which “SEO this, SEO that, SEO with sugar, global SEO” etc. and they do make money. Thanx to a thousands of companies whose managers doesnt know a shit about web standards and promoting.

Whats SEO? A carefully built website respecting web standards? I know one thing. Better content, better rank. Instead of paying money to people who does nothing more then online advertising and naming it SEO (buzzing and other shit), why not invest time and money and provide good content for your existent and future users (clients). This way, you will have backlinks from people who consider your website worth something among millions of websites worlwide. Noooooooo, they are lazy. I want my website to be on 1st page at Google. I want shortcut!!

People, shortcuts doesnt exists. Provide a good and interesting content and take care of semantics in your websites code. Personally, I never ever payed advertising for Rainfall. It has 6/10 pagerank. Why? Ask yourself.

Here is an interesting article showing a compilation of Lightbox clones. Now, what we refer on when we say “lightbox” is a way to show media images or other content, using modal windows (movable or fixed) instead of opening those in new browser window. Check them out, some are classics, other are ugly :)
